Two Papers Published By American Indian Policy Research Center

November 2009--The National Congress of American Indians Policy Research Center (NCAI PRC) has recently published two papers about research regulation policies and practices. The papers suggest research strategies communities can use to maximize benefits and minimize potential harms.

The Policy and Practice Considerations paper describes different ways to institutionalize research regulation in communities. It reviews legal basis for tribal regulation of research, explores review board structures, discusses jurisdictional issues, and includes methods for enforcing community research review decisions.

The Guide to Reviewing Research Studies paper provides a detailed discussion of each stage of research review from study proposals to publications, and serves as a guide for communities to consult in the review process. The paper describes components that should be included and includes issues communities may wish to consider when reviewing.
