Department/Collegiate Level and Central Offices

In the proposal module, we introduced the central administrative units and the approval chain required for proposal submission. In addition to central administrative units, there are people at the department or collegiate level who will assist you in managing the grant.

Project roles have been defined at unit or individual levels, and by sponsored project phases, to clearly delineate responsibilities at all levels and phases of a project. This information is available on the web at Sponsored Projects Roles and Responsibilities,
http://www.research.umn.edu/regulations/sproles.html

The roles that will be most helpful to you are:

Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) Assists with management of research and investigation, and has fiscal and administrative responsibilities

Co-Investigator (Co-I) May have research and investigative, fiscal and/or administrative responsibility as delegated by PI

Certified Approver (CA) Approves certain financial documents on sponsored projects at local level

Unit Administrator Prepares and submits financial and human resource documents as directed by PIs and Co-PIs

Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) Sets up award and acts as local liaison for ongoing management of award

Sponsored Financial Reporting (SFR) Compiles sponsor-required financial reports and is responsible for invoicing sponsors and tracking sponsor payments
